IATF 16949 & ISO 14001: What Our Factory Certifications Mean for Your Connector Program

For automotive electronics buyers, a certificate is not a marketing badge. It is the shortest answer to two questions: can this factory hold a process in control, and does it manage its environmental responsibilities? Our production base, Henan Jinhua Electric Co., Ltd., holds IATF 16949:2016 for automotive quality management and GB/T 24001-2016 / ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management. Below is what is actually written on the two certificates - and what it changes in day-to-day work on your connector program.

Two certificates, two different jobs

Quality and environmental management are often lumped together in a supplier questionnaire. They cover very different risks, so here are the certificate details side by side:

Both certificates can be checked independently: the IATF certificate through the IATF global database using registration no. 0608506, and the ISO 14001 certificate through the Chinese national certification register. We supply scanned originals and verification details on request.

What IATF 16949 changes on the shop floor

IATF 16949 is the automotive sector's quality management standard. For a connector supplier, the practical effect is that every repeatable step has to be defined, measured and traceable - not left to an operator's judgement:

  • Process control before inspection. Molding parameters, stamping die condition, plating thickness and press-fit pin geometry are controlled at the process, with control plans and reaction plans when a characteristic drifts.
  • APQP and PPAP documentation. New connector programs are launched with documented planning, dimensional reports, material data and sample approval - the paperwork automotive customers need for their own release.
  • Lot-level traceability. Resin batches, terminal coil lots and assembly dates are recorded, so a question about one shipment can be answered from records rather than memory.
  • Controlled changes. A mold repair, a plating supplier change or a relocated assembly line triggers review and re-validation before parts ship again.
  • Structured problem solving. Complaints are handled with root-cause analysis and verified corrective actions, instead of a replacement shipment and a hope.

Our in-house quality lab supports these checks with high/low temperature, salt spray, waterproof, micro-resistance and current testing - the same tests that appear in a PPAP submission.

What ISO 14001 adds

ISO 14001 governs how a factory identifies and controls its environmental impact. In a connector plant that means controlled handling of plating chemicals and molding scrap, segregation of production waste, energy monitoring, and a documented system for meeting environmental legal requirements. For customers, it also makes environmental questionnaires, material declarations and supplier sustainability audits considerably easier to answer with evidence rather than assurances.

A note on scope: we build to your drawing

Our IATF 16949 certificate covers the manufacturing of connectors and explicitly excludes product design. We would rather state that plainly than let anyone assume otherwise. In practice, customers bring the interface - a PCB footprint, a mating specification, a sealing requirement - and our tooling team turns it into a mold, a progressive stamping die and a control plan. Design authority stays with you; manufacturing responsibility stays with us.

Tianwan automotive connector range: ECU and BCM housings, waterproof connectors, PCB pin headers and stamped terminals
ECU / BCM housings, waterproof connectors, PCB pin headers and stamped terminals - all built in the same certified plant

One production base, one export channel

All of the above applies to the products we ship under the Tianwan brand: ECU and BCM controller housings, sealed waterproof connectors, PCB headers and pin headers, and stamped terminals including press-fit (eye-of-the-needle) pins. We are the export arm of our own factory, so quotes, samples, engineering changes and certificate documents all come through one team - there is no trading company in the middle and no separate factory to chase for a PPAP.

Ask for the documents

If you are qualifying a new connector source, send us your drawing, target annual volume and the documents your release process requires. We can provide certificate scans, PPAP / APQP packages, first article inspection reports, material certificates and free samples for standard series - and we welcome on-site or remote factory audits.
